DURRANTS REMOVALS - PURLEY, SU

We phoned Durrants Removals Croydon as we were on holiday and our first choice company didn't have any availability. We were told that Durrants would match the quote provided by the first company as they had an arrangement with them (turned out that the firm we wanted to use actually had an agreement with a different Durrants based in Sussex and had never heard of this firm), which was handy as we were on holiday the week before we moved and couldn't arrange to get quotes from other firms.

Despite committing in writing to match the quote provided to us by another firm, on arrival Mr Durrant started complaining that we'd been under quoted and was talking about charging us extra!

Eventually agreed to pay an additional £240 returnable deposit for 100 boxes and got Mr Durrant to sign a receipt confirming this. Meaning that I would probably have to make two 70 mile round trips to Croydon to return all the boxes. However, so as to not cause upset before any of our possessions had even been moved, I agreed in good faith to paying an additional £240 into Mr Durrant's PERSONAL ACCOUNT.

2 Weeks later I called to enquire about claiming for several breakages and about arranging a time to return the boxes. We agreed that I would get a valuation for the cost of repairing/replacing the damaged items (3 clocks and a vase) and at that time arrange a time to return the boxes.

Another week later, having not had messages returned, I managed to get through to Mr Durrant who said he would only refund me 50p per box, i.e., £50 instead of £240 that I'd paid!!! I am now taking further action.
