I write this review from my own personal experience of using, J C Structural Solutions Limited, Bolton.

I have been very disappointed to with J C Structural Solutions Limited and this is why.

I was advised by my architect to use J C Structural Solutions Limited and on this advice, I asked my architect to make contact.

On receipt of the calculations from J C Structural Solutions Limited, they had changed the layout of the architects’ drawings putting a pillar in the middle of the kitchen that was 665mm and had moved a window to the front elevation to the side elevation without any consultation or regard for the aesthetics of the build. I also had to chase them up as they had not provided the calculations by the deadline that they had set.

After speaking with my architect, he advised me that this was not what they had been instructed to do and he would contact them with my concerns.

After contact from my architect, J C Structural Solutions Limited, reverted to the original plan and provided a solution to the 665mm pillar and the window that they had moved. This felt as though they could not be bothered in providing the solution in the first place and they had rushed the job.

This was confirmed by my builder, as he had now had time to look at the calculations and J C Structural Solutions Limited had not re-calculated one of the steels that was to be fitted and the attaching drill holes were now 50mm out of synch and would have to be re-drilled.

As my project progressed, the builder stated that he would now like to change the roof from a tessellated roof due to lead in times to a traditional roof as this would be much quicker.

The only issue with this was that I had not factored in the calculations for a traditional roof and had to go back to J C Structural Solutions Limited, for the calculations. If I had gone for a traditional roof in the first place J C Structural Solutions Limited, stated that this would be £200 plus VAT.

After, consultation with my builder I contacted my architect and asked if they would contact J C Structural Solutions Limited, to see if they could help and provide the calculations that I needed.

J C Structural Solutions Limited, came back to the architect and stated that they would be able to do the calculations, but because this was not done in the first instances and would be more onerous it would be at a cost of £300, plus VAT.

As I was now in a bit of a dilemma, I agreed to pay the £300 plus VAT and asked what the turn round would be. J C Structural Solutions Limited, stated that they were very busy and it would be 6 weeks before they could provide the calculations, even though I had explained that we were nearly at roof level with the brickwork and if I did not have the calculations, it would stall the build.

I know that companies are very busy now with the building boom, but I would have thought that the fact that I had already paid £350, plus VAT and I was an existing customer of J C Structural Solutions Limited, that they may have given some priority to me as I was now stuck and needed the calculations for the roof.

I must admit they did come back to me and say that they could move some things around and I could have the calculations in possibly 3 weeks, which I thought was very nice of them.

As I am sure you can imagine I was now getting a little stressed, but thanks to my guardian angel of an architect he contacted another company who said they could help. 1 day after contact from my architect I had my calculations for the traditional roof at a cost of £150, including VAT, half of the cost that J C Structural Solutions Limited wanted and with a super-fast service.

So, my friends, if you want my advice, stay away from J C Structural Solutions Limited, as they are not interested in good customer service and when they have got your money, they are not interested in any follow up service.
