We employed Jason and his team from Vision Driveways & Landscaping to carry out an extension and relay a new driveway, the quoted price was very good and a lot better than other companies hence why we chose them, what a mistake that was!

Unfortunately when Jason and his team started our driveway (a week later than agreed) Jason and one other arrived late, they spent 2 hours at our property before leaving to return to another job. When they returned 3 days later the workers were not wearing appropriate attire and no safety goggles or ear muffs when banging out the concrete. When using the disc cutter they did not use water and instead chose to dry cut the stone which resulted in both ours and neighbouring properties being coated in a layer of dust that is also detrimental to our health if breathed in. It was clear that the men were not professionals and that corners were being cut, the quality and standard of work was not there.

The quote given to us by Jason specified an excavation depth of 250mm to lay our driveway properly. When the men finished excavating the depth was no more that 120mm in places. Jason assured me that the depth would be 250mm however after raising this with him multiple times they did not do any further excavation and chose a day when I was at work to lay the type 1 road stone and compact it in to the ground below (hoping I wouldn’t realise that no further excavation had taken place!) Luckily my father in law lives 2 doors along and has a career in construction therefore he knew exactly what they should be doing and what they had not done properly. Furthermore the road stone for an area of 47m2 and a depth of 150mm would be roughly 12 tonnes but the men only brought in 4-5 tonnes in their van. In some areas there was no type 1 road stone at all. I raised this concern with them multiple times but again they chose a day when I was at work to lay the membrane on top of the road stone without adding anymore stone underneath. The quote stated that a Geotec membrane would be used in the driveway however weed membrane was used which was not sufficient.

The drainage at the bottom of the driveway was fitted and laid in such a way that the garage door was unable to close and this then bent the garage door out of shape and left our garage flooding with water at a time of high levels of rainfall. During their time on site the build equipment had been left in my garage and caused damage to my BMW motorbike. My neighbour’s driveway had been badly damaged which resulted in her being unable to get her vehicle in or out of her garage which was a huge inconvenience. Our flower bed wall had been hit and wiped out with the mini digger along with the side of our home which removed some of the render.

Within the quote they specified that the job would be completed in 4 days. 2 weeks in and we were no closer to finishing than when started. The men would then periodically not attend site for days at a time with no communication to confirm if they would be coming or when. 3 weeks in and no end in sight we had no choice but use our right to reject and give a timeframe to rectify the mistakes and damages. Despite promise after promise and then not even bothering to turn up when they stated that they would we decided that enough was enough, our driveway had been destroyed and was left in a terrible state.

Unfortunately the matter did not end there and when conversation and resolution with Jason failed he chose to attend our property with 3 of his men and took a pick axe to our garage door and drainage at the bottom of our driveway. The Police were called and Jason was asked to leave the area, the police are still involved and we have submitted a small county court claim which is now been proved in our favour. This company having a county court
